Our Story

Founded in 2013, OpenBiome is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to investigational fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) and catalyzing microbiome research. Inspired by a personal experience with a friend suffering from a life-threatening C. difficile infection, OpenBiome has focused on advancing microbiome science and improving health outcomes through innovative therapies and research partnerships.

Impact

OpenBiome has provided over 70,000 investigational fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) preparations to patients with antibiotic-resistant C. difficile infections, significantly improving patient outcomes and advancing clinical research in microbiome science.
