Our Story

The Michigan Jazz Festival was founded in 1995 by John Trudell and Emil Moro to showcase local jazz talent and provide a platform for musicians who often had to leave Detroit for recognition. Since moving to Schoolcraft College in 1999, the festival has grown significantly, promoting jazz as a vital cultural resource and ensuring free access for all attendees.

Impact

Each year, the Michigan Jazz Festival attracts approximately five thousand attendees, successfully showcasing local jazz talent and providing opportunities for young musicians. Supported by grants and community sponsorships, the festival continues to thrive and engage the community.
