Our Story

The Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition (MEJC) was established in 2011 to implement the 2010 Environmental Justice Plan initiated by Governor Granholm. In response to environmental crises like the Detroit water shutoffs and the Flint Water Crisis, MEJC has expanded its network and membership. The organization is dedicated to systems change by collaborating with statewide power-building organizations and grassroots groups to tackle the root causes of climate change, including racism, capitalism, and the hetero-patriarchy.

Our Impact

MEJC strives to create a clean, healthy, and safe environment for Michigan residents who are most affected by inadequate policies, fostering community power and unity.
