Our Story

Founded in December 1980 by Episcopal Bishop H. Coleman McGehee Jr., Rabbi Richard Hertz, and Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights (MCHR) emerged as a response to the growing divisiveness in religion and politics. MCHR has been a platform for discussing and acting on critical issues such as racism, unemployment, sexism, militarism, and economic justice.

Impact

For nearly 40 years, MCHR has been a steadfast defender of human rights, driving social change through education, community organization, and action.
