Our Story

In 1972, alarming studies revealed that approximately 300,000 Jews in New York City were living in poverty. Today, that number has surged to over 500,000. This crisis led to the establishment of the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty, supported by the American Jewish Congress and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York. Met Council has since evolved into the largest Jewish charity in America, dedicated to combating poverty and serving over 325,000 clients across New York City and its surrounding areas.

Our Impact

Each year, Met Council provides essential anti-poverty services to over 325,000 clients in all five boroughs of New York City.
