Our Story
Now in its 55th year, the Metropolitan Detroit Chorale (MDC) continues to "Bring music to life and lives to music" for area citizens. Established in 1970 as the Fraser Civic Chorus, the group was initially comprised of Fraser residents dedicated to providing beautiful vocal music for the community. In 1989, it was incorporated as a nonprofit organization and became known as Fraser Chorale, Inc. Finally, in 1995, the group adopted its current name, Metropolitan Detroit Chorale, Inc.
Under the direction of talented conductors, including Howard C. Richards and Pasquale Pascaretti, MDC has performed masterworks such as Vivaldi's Gloria, Bach's Magnificat, and Mendelssohn's Elijah. The Chorale has had the honor of traveling to New York on three occasions to sing at Carnegie Hall, including a memorable performance of Handel's Messiah conducted by John Rutter in November 2007. Most recently, in December 2018, MDC performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 as part of the DCINY chorus at Carnegie Hall.
In addition to seasonal concerts, the Chorale has presented significant premieres, including the Michigan premiere of Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace in May 2006, followed by the Midwest premiere of his Requiem in June 2007. MDC is committed to serving the community and enriching the cultural landscape through its performances.
