About the Virginia Samford Theatre
Formerly known as The Little Theatre, The Clark Memorial Theatre, and Town & Gown Theatre, the Virginia Samford Theatre has been a cornerstone of Birmingham’s theatrical legacy since 1927. Nestled in Caldwell Park, this Romanesque playhouse has witnessed the community come together to produce quality theatrical performances, even during challenging times like the Great Depression and World War II. In 1999, the Metropolitan Arts Council stepped in to save this historic venue from closure, renaming it in honor of generous donor Virginia Samford Donovan. Today, it stands as a vibrant hub for local talent and community events.
