Our Story

Messengers for Health began in 1996 through a collaborative effort between the Apsaalooke (Crow) Nation and Montana State University. This partnership aimed to address health equity by utilizing community women, known as Messengers, to educate and encourage Crow women to seek cancer screenings. Over the years, Messengers for Health has developed a strong foundation of trust within the Apsáalooke community, becoming a vital resource for health education and support.

Community Impact

The impact of Messengers for Health has been profound. Crow women are now openly discussing cancer screenings, leading to increased awareness and proactive health measures. Survivors are sharing their stories, fostering a supportive environment where cancer is no longer seen as a death sentence. The organization has significantly improved knowledge and attitudes towards cervical cancer screening, transforming the community's approach to health.
