About Merritt Island Wildlife Association

The Merritt Island Wildlife Association (MIWA) was established in 1994 to support vital projects, internships, and community outreach programs that enhance the experience of Refuge visitors and MIWA members. Located in Florida, MIWA operates under a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, managing the Bookery gift shop at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center.

Impact of MIWA

MIWA plays a crucial role in sustaining activities and programs that face funding challenges due to federal budget cuts. Through generous contributions from MIWA members, the organization has funded environmental education programs, youth outreach initiatives, and volunteer programs, contributing over 12,000 volunteer hours annually.
