Training And Development

Transforming Opera Training in the United States

Over 60 years ago, the Merola Opera Program was established to revolutionize opera training in the United States. Founded by Kurt Herbert Adler, the program honors the legacy of Gaetano Merola, a passionate advocate for young American singers. Initially a 4-week program for 14 singers, it has evolved into a prestigious 12-week training experience for 23 singers, 5 apprentice coaches, and 1 apprentice stage director from around the globe.

Life-Changing Impact on Young Artists

This summer, 23 talented singers were selected from over 1,300 international applicants to participate in the Merola Opera Program. During their time at Merola, these artists receive invaluable instruction from nearly 30 esteemed faculty members, honing their skills in professional-quality productions—all at no cost to them.
