Our Story

Founded in 1949 by George Milligan, Mercy Flights Inc. is the nation’s first not-for-profit air ambulance service. Established during the polio epidemic, the organization arose from the urgent need for accessible healthcare transport. With community support, Milligan acquired the first aircraft, enabling lifesaving medical transport for rural residents in Southern Oregon. Over the decades, Mercy Flights has evolved, expanding its services to include ground ambulance and Mobile Integrated Healthcare, adapting to the community's changing needs.

Impact

Today, Mercy Flights serves over 30,000 patients annually, significantly enhancing access to emergency medical care in Southern Oregon and Northern California. The Mobile Integrated Healthcare program addresses the needs of underserved patients, ensuring they receive essential follow-up care and resources after discharge.
