Our Story

With a generous grant from the Paddock Fund at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Richard Paddock initiated a transformative effort to preserve nearly a square mile of land in the heart of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The City of Mequon, alongside the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, embraced this challenge, leading to the establishment of Mequon Nature Preserve. Today, the Preserve spans 510 acres, featuring over six miles of trails, an observation tower, a natural playspace, and the PieperPower Education Center, which serves as the hub for outdoor activities and community programs.

Impact

Every year, over 3,000 children visit the Preserve for free field trips, engaging in hands-on learning experiences as they explore forests, wetlands, and prairies. MNP also covers transportation costs for students from Milwaukee Public Schools, ensuring access to nature for all.
