Our Story

Since its inception in 2012, Mekong NYC has been a beacon of hope for the Southeast Asian community in New York City. Starting with a small team of five, the organization has grown significantly, reflecting the needs of a vibrant and resilient refugee community. Initially sharing a house with Vamos Unidos, Mekong NYC has faced challenges in finding a permanent home. In 2014, the organization moved to a cramped basement office, which has since become inadequate for its expanding services. The Mekong Center aims to provide a dedicated space for organizing, arts and culture programs, and advocacy, ensuring that the voices of Southeast Asian refugees are heard and celebrated.

The Mekong Center will enhance access to vital services, empowering the community through organizing efforts, cultural programs, and advocacy initiatives. This center will stand as a testament to the resilience and legacy of Southeast Asian refugees in the Bronx.
