Our Story

In 1985, a dedicated team of plastic surgeons from the United States embarked on a mission to the Dominican Republic, aiming to change the lives of children born with birth defects such as cleft lips and palates. Over the years, this compassionate initiative has evolved into an annual medical mission trip, with many of the original surgeons returning each February, now joined by a growing team of volunteers.

With over 5,000 surgeries performed in 38 years, MACLA has provided essential medical care to countless children in need.
