Our Story

FoodRecovery.org, formerly known as MEANS Database, connects organizations with surplus food to communities in need. Founded by Maria Rose Belding and Grant Nelson, this platform champions sustainability by diverting edible food from landfills. Since 2015, it has adapted to meet the needs of food businesses and nonprofits, modernizing the food donation system.

Impact

In just one year, FoodRecovery.org has saved over 52 million pounds of food, serving more than 540,000 individuals with nutritious meals. With a network of over 3,000 users across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the organization has successfully recovered over 4 million pounds of food since its inception.
