Founded in 1972 by Sally Judd Griffin, Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula has been a beacon of hope for frail, homebound seniors in the community. Recognizing the critical link between nutrition and health, Sally began delivering hot meals herself, igniting a movement that would grow into a vital nonprofit organization. Over the years, dedicated volunteers have joined her mission, ensuring that seniors receive the nourishment they need to thrive.

Our Journey

From humble beginnings in a basement kitchen, the organization expanded significantly, culminating in the establishment of the Sally Griffin Senior Center, affectionately known as the "Jewel on Jewell." This facility was made possible through a successful capital campaign that raised over $1,000,000, showcasing the community's commitment to supporting its seniors. Under the leadership of Viveca Lohr, who succeeded Sally, the organization flourished, increasing its services and outreach to better serve the needs of the community.

Impact on the Community

Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula is dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors and disabled adults. With the help of over 525 active volunteers, the organization delivered an astounding 343,000 meals in 2023 alone. Each meal comes with a daily wellness check and a friendly interaction, ensuring that clients not only receive nourishment but also companionship.
