Our Story
In the fall of 1972, a dedicated group of community organizations in New Brunswick came together to address the pressing needs of the elderly. Following a program sponsored by the American Red Cross on Food for the Elderly, they established the Meals on Wheels Program. With initial funding from The New Brunswick Mutual Foundation and support from St. Peter’s Hospital, the first meals were delivered on April 16, 1973. Over the years, the program has evolved, and since 2022, EU’s Catering of Somerset has been preparing fresh, nutritious meals for clients. Today, Meals on Wheels delivers an impressive 30,000 meals annually, thanks to the tireless efforts of over eighty volunteers, community organizations, and Rutgers University students.
