Our Story

In 1968, a dedicated group of citizens in Cook County, Illinois, recognized the alarming number of seniors at risk of malnutrition. Partnering with Sister Mary Alfreda Bracht of Saint Francis Hospital, they launched Meals on Wheels Northeastern Illinois, delivering nutritious meals directly to the homes of those in need. From its humble beginnings, the program has expanded to serve a growing number of residents across multiple counties, fueled by the passion of volunteers.

Impact

Last year, Meals on Wheels NE Illinois delivered over 100,000 meals, thanks to the commitment of more than 500 volunteers. This initiative is dedicated to ensuring that home-bound older adults receive the nourishment and support they deserve.
