Our Story
Founded in 1979 by visionary parents and educators, Meadowbrook Waldorf School has been a beacon of Waldorf Education in southern New England. After years of operating in various rented spaces, the school found its permanent home on 28 acres of beautiful forest, meadows, and wetlands in Richmond, Rhode Island. The community's dedication and generosity made it possible to construct a 15,000 sq. ft. building, which opened its doors in 2007.
In July 2018, a lightning strike led to a devastating fire that destroyed the school building. However, the outpouring of support from local and global communities was overwhelming. Thanks to the efforts of over 200 firefighters and the swift action of our supporters, MWS reopened in a temporary location that Fall. The Meadowbrook Rising Campaign was launched to rebuild and enhance the school, culminating in the completion of a new building in September 2020, with plans for a Community Center underway.
