Me Over PD Foundation

Our Story

The Me Over PD Foundation was born out of a critical need for information and support for those diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Many patients receive little to no guidance from their healthcare providers, leaving them feeling isolated and confused. In 2016, six couples, consisting of patients and their care partners, completed the PD SELF program and formed the Parkinson’s Disease Action Group (PDAG) to create a local resource for health-related services. This initiative has since evolved into a comprehensive support system, addressing the shortage of Movement Disorder Specialists through collaborative learning and action.

Our Impact

MOPD’s hallmark is the formation of Study/Action groups, or tribes, where patients and caregivers come together to learn about Parkinson’s Disease and develop actionable plans. For instance, the Macon, GA Tribe successfully established Rock Steady Boxing, a renowned exercise program tailored for Parkinson’s patients, and partnered with Mercer Medical School to educate future healthcare professionals about the complexities of the disease.
