Our Story

MDFT International originated from a commitment to revolutionize treatment services for youth facing mental health challenges, substance use issues, and delinquency. Established in 1985 through a National Institute on Drug Abuse-funded trial, the MDFT approach was crafted by Dr. Howard Liddle and Dr. Gayle Dakof, drawing from extensive research on adolescence and parenting. In 2011, MDFT International was founded to ensure the high-quality replication of this impactful program.
