Our Story
The Mattapoisett Historical Society was founded on May 19, 1958, thanks to the vision of Lemuel LeBaron Dexter and the efforts of Minerva Sparrow. Their dedication to preserving the history of Mattapoisett led to the establishment of a museum that opened its doors in 1959 at 5 Church Street. The society's first curator, Charles Mendell, played a pivotal role in curating significant artifacts that reflect the town's rich heritage. Today, the museum stands as a testament to the community's commitment to preserving its past.
