Our Story

Since its inception in 1998, the Mathematics Education Collaborative (MEC) has been dedicated to empowering every learner to become a proficient user of mathematics. In response to the challenges posed by the Common Core State Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practice, MEC recognizes the urgent need for more mathematics leaders who can support teachers and administrators across the nation. Through the MEC MSP initiative, a successful model has been developed to prepare classroom teachers as effective leaders. This initiative has led to the creation of content workshops and support resources that have significantly impacted mathematics teaching and learning in Washington State.

Impact

The results of MEC's initiatives are evident in the strong performance of students in participating classrooms. A remarkable 60% of these students met state standards, compared to only 38% of their peers in non-participating classrooms. This data underscores the effectiveness of MEC's approach in enhancing student learning outcomes.
