Empowering Public Housing Residents

Founded in 1967, the Massachusetts Union of Public Housing Tenants is the first statewide organization dedicated to public housing tenants in the United States. Born from the frustrations of residents seeking justice and decent living conditions, the Union has grown into a powerful advocate for tenant rights. By fostering community strength and perseverance, the Union believes that public housing can be a source of pride and dignity for its residents.

Addressing the Housing Crisis

With an estimated need for 190,000 more affordable housing units in Massachusetts, the Union is committed to increasing tenant representation and preserving existing public housing resources. Currently, fewer than 10% of tenants are represented by a tenant organization, and the Union aims to change that.
