Our Story

Founded in 1995 by Reverend Ronald Stephenson, the Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association was born from a deep need for awareness and support for families affected by sickle cell disease (SCD). Inspired by the words of a patient who felt neglected, the organization emerged from a collaboration of patients, families, and healthcare professionals at Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. The mission was clear: to promote awareness and provide essential support services free of charge.

Our Impact

The Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association is dedicated to ensuring that individuals living with sickle cell disease are treated with dignity and compassion. Through advocacy, education, and community services, the organization works tirelessly to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
