About MIRA Coalition

Founded in 1987, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, known as MIRA, emerged in response to the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This pivotal legislation allowed millions of undocumented immigrants to seek permanent residency. MIRA has since evolved into a robust, member-driven coalition dedicated to advocating for the rights and integration of Massachusetts’ nearly 1.2 million immigrants and refugees.

Impact of MIRA Coalition

MIRA Coalition has been a cornerstone in the fight for immigrant rights and integration in Massachusetts. Through impactful reports and advocacy, MIRA has influenced state programs and budget allocations that support immigrant integration, while also contributing to national movements for comprehensive immigration reform.
