Our Story
Founded in 1981, Maryland United FC, originally known as Freestate Soccer Alliance, has been a cornerstone of youth soccer development in Maryland. Established by Ed Beimel to provide travel soccer opportunities for families in Bowie, MD, the organization has grown significantly over the decades. From humble beginnings, the club has expanded its reach, now serving players from various counties including Anne Arundel, St. Mary’s, Frederick, and Salisbury.
Maryland United FC has a rich history of success, participating in prestigious leagues such as the Washington Area Girls Soccer League and the National Capital Soccer League. The club has produced numerous players who have excelled at the high school level and beyond, with many earning spots on NCAA Division 1 teams. The commitment to excellence is evident in the accolades received, including recognition as one of the top 25 youth programs in the United States by Soccer America.
In 2013, the merger with Waldorf Soccer Club marked a new chapter, allowing for a broader player pool and enhanced coaching quality. As a founding member of the Girls Elite Clubs National League and with the boys joining the Elite Club National League in 2018, Maryland United FC continues to set the standard for youth soccer in the region.
With a focus on developing not just skilled athletes but also responsible community members, Maryland United FC emphasizes the importance of life skills learned through sports. The club's training facilities, including state-of-the-art artificial turf fields at Indian Creek School, provide an ideal environment for player development.
