Martin Pollak Project
EIN: 52-1171384 · Baltimore, MD
Our Story
Founded in 1980 by Elizabeth Hall Pollak, the Martin Pollak Project is a testament to the power of community and compassion. Raised in modest circumstances, Elizabeth believed in the moral responsibility to uplift those in need, especially children. Inspired by her faith and volunteer experiences, she established this nonprofit in honor of her late husband, Martin Pollak, who shared her vision of a caring community. With the support of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and dedicated volunteers, the organization has grown to address the pressing educational needs of at-risk youth in Baltimore and Washington D.C.
Our Impact
Today, the Martin Pollak Project serves over 64,000 children in Baltimore who are reading below grade level. Research shows that tutoring and mentoring are effective solutions to bridge this educational gap. By collaborating with schools, universities, and civic leaders, the organization is spearheading a public campaign to expand tutoring and mentoring programs like Northstar Baltimore, ensuring that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
