Our Story

The Black Heritage Society Inc. was founded in 1974 by Ovide Duncantell Jr. to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy. This organization is renowned for its annual MLK Jr. Holiday Parade, the first of its kind in the nation, commissioned by Dr. King's father. The Society is dedicated to empowering and educating the community about Black history while promoting social justice.

Impact

Since 1978, the Black Heritage Society has successfully organized the Original MLK Jr. Parade, attracting thousands of participants and spectators each year. This event fosters community engagement and raises awareness of civil rights issues.
