Our Story

The Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center, founded by community organizers in Oakland, embodies the principles of Dr. King. Under the leadership of Ira Jinkins, the center addresses critical issues such as race divides, poverty, and violence. It is renowned for organizing the first and largest Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. March & Rally on the West Coast, fostering collaboration with educational and community initiatives to promote civic engagement and ethical leadership.

Our Impact

Focusing on vulnerable high-poverty communities in the East Bay Region and Northern California, the center drives change through personal transformation and direct action. By emphasizing youth and family civic engagement, ethical leadership, and economic and educational equity, the center creates lasting impacts.
