Our Story

The Martin Luther King Jr Association of Asheville and Buncombe County was founded in 2003 to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by fostering goodwill and mutual respect. Through significant annual events like the Prayer Breakfast and Peace March & Rally, the Association unites thousands in celebration of Dr. King’s teachings.

Impact

With nearly 2,000 attendees at its annual celebrations, the MLK Association has become a cornerstone of community healing and empowerment. Initiatives like the COPE Initiative and the Buncombe Community Remembrance Project address social, racial, and economic injustices.
