Our Story

In the 1950s, options for individuals with developmental disabilities were scarce. Tom and Anne Sell, parents of a daughter with Down syndrome, recognized the need for better support and convened a meeting in their home in Needham. This gathering led to the establishment of a preschool in 1956, serving twelve children at a nominal fee. Today, the Charles River Center has evolved significantly, operating 28 group homes and providing essential services to over 950 children and adults in the Boston MetroWest area.
