Our Story
The Maritime Heritage Alliance began as a passionate group of friends dedicated to preserving the unique wooden boats of the Great Lakes. Starting in a vacant fire hall in Traverse City, Michigan, the organization acquired vessels in need of restoration and began teaching essential maritime skills. The first project, a 23β Replica Mackinaw boat named Gracie L, was completed in 1982 and can still be seen sailing the bay today. In 1985, the Alliance built a replica of the historic Schooner Madeline, further solidifying its commitment to maritime heritage.
