Our Story
Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, known as MarinMOCA, has deep roots in the Marin County arts community. Founded in 1983 by a group of eleven artists from the College of Marin, the organization began in an old barn in rural Indian Valley. This vibrant artistic community inspired a vision: to create a space where contemporary art and artistic expression are accessible to everyone. In 1993, MarinMOCA moved to the former Administration Headquarters at Hamilton Air Force Base, expanding its reach and influence. By 2005, the gallery had established itself, hosting its first national exhibition. The official launch of Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007 marked the realization of this dream, fostering creativity and community engagement.
