Our Story
Founded in West Oakland, California, Mandela Partners was established to address the inequities in the local food environment, stemming from a legacy of redlining and economic disinvestment. By fostering a community-directed plan, Mandela Partners empowers residents to identify local needs and uplift community assets. Over 18 years, innovative strategies have emerged, including a community-owned grocery store, increased access to healthy food, connections to local farmers, and support for BIPOC entrepreneurs.
Impact
Mandela Partners has distributed 2.3 million pounds of sustainably grown local produce and secured over 45 jobs in the food sector for individuals facing employment barriers.
