Our Story
In the fall of 2015, a collaboration between the Executive Director and graduate students from the UMass Design Center in downtown Springfield sparked the creation of a one-month pop-up makerspace. This initiative aimed to revitalize a vacant storefront and engage the community. Over 450 participants of all ages attended more than 40 workshops covering technology, art, engineering, bicycle repair, cooking, and sewing. The enthusiasm and support from the community allowed Make-It Springfield to extend its operations beyond the initial month, leading to a permanent location at 168 Worthington Street, which opened on June 1, 2016. After years of planning and renovation, Make-It Springfield proudly moved to its current location at 286 Bridge Street on January 1, 2023.
