Maison T Ortiz Youth Outdoor Skills Camp

Our Story

Founded in 2011, the Maison T Ortiz Youth Outdoor Skills Camp honors the memory of Maison T Ortiz, a young life lost too soon. This weekend-long event immerses youths in essential outdoor skills training while providing a fun overnight camping experience. Collaborating with Nevada Bighorns Unlimited, the Northern Nevada Chapter of Safari Club International, and The Rotary Club of Sparks, the camp addresses the critical need for youth involvement in wildlife-related outdoor activities. The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) also plays a vital role as a strategic partner. In December 2016, the camp was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, ensuring its mission continues to thrive.

The camp empowers inexperienced youth to engage in outdoor skills training, promoting safety, sportsmanship, and stewardship of wildlife and its habitat.
