Our Story

In the early 2000s, Mainely Character was founded by Arnold Bushner and George Spino, inspired by a character-based curriculum at a local high school. They identified a gap in scholarship opportunities that focused on character traits rather than traditional academic metrics. Thus, the Mainely Character Scholarship was born, awarding its first scholarships in 2001.

Impact

Since 2004, Mainely Character has awarded 103 scholarships totaling $388,500 to Maine high school seniors, emphasizing the importance of character in their selection process.
