The journey of Maine Immigrant and Refugee Services (MEIRS) began in 2008, initiated by a group of young Somali Bantus in Lewiston, Maine. Recognizing the urgent need for support among refugee youth, MEIRS has expanded its services to empower immigrants and refugees in achieving self-sufficiency while honoring their cultural identities.
MEIRS has made significant strides, including resettling over 100 Afghan individuals and becoming a full resettlement agency under the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc. (ECDC).
