Our Story
Over a decade ago, a group of dedicated citizens from Burlington City recognized the urgent need for revitalization in their downtown area. Faced with the challenges posed by big box stores and online shopping, these concerned residents took action by joining the national Main Street America program, which has a proven track record of success across the country. In 2006, Main Street Burlington was established as a 501(c)(3) organization, aiming to breathe new life into the local economy.
Despite facing setbacks, including a loss of support from city hall, the spirit of community engagement never waned. Recently, a new wave of entrepreneurs has emerged, eager to invest in Burlington City and transform its historic buildings into vibrant spaces for business and community interaction. In 2019, Main Street Burlington reignited its mission by hosting monthly meetings for business owners, property owners, and residents, fostering a collaborative environment.
One of the standout achievements of Main Street Burlington was the partnership with AMEX for Shop Small Saturday, which garnered national recognition as one of only 16 communities in the country to receive this honor. This initiative exemplifies the power of community collaboration and sets the stage for future successes.
