About Magnificat Houses

Founded in 1968 by social worker Rose Mary Badami, Magnificat Houses emerged as a compassionate response to the closure of state-supported mental institutions, which left many vulnerable individuals homeless on the streets of Houston. With a vision rooted in dignity and community, Rose Mary raised funds to purchase a house in a struggling Midtown neighborhood, transforming it into a safe haven for women in need. This pilot home flourished, leading to the establishment of additional residences for men, women, and families, as well as a downtown soup kitchen in 1972 to serve the destitute and chronic street populations.

Our Impact

Magnificat Houses serves thousands of displaced persons each year, providing essential shelter, nutritious meals, and mental health support. The organization empowers individuals to reclaim their lives and become productive members of society.
