Our Story
Founded in 1970 by Madison's mayor, Otto Festge, the Madison Area Jail Ministry emerged from a recognized need for spiritual care within the Dane County Jail. Initially supported by a volunteer pastor, the organization quickly evolved to hire a full-time chaplain, ensuring that incarcerated individuals receive the spiritual guidance they need. Over the years, the ministry has adapted its services while remaining committed to its mission of supporting those behind bars and their families.
