Our Story

Lydia's House began with a vision and a sack of potatoes. Founded in 1990 by Pastors Eugene and Patrice Sheppard, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to transforming the lives of Washington, D.C.'s most vulnerable populations. Starting from humble beginnings, the Sheppards moved to Bellevue to make a difference, distributing food and resources to those in need. Today, Lydia's House takes a holistic approach to community development, providing essential social services, emotional support, and educational resources to low-income and at-risk families.

Impact

Since its inception, Lydia's House has positively impacted over 20,000 individuals in Wards 7 and 8 of Washington, D.C., focusing on community development and family support.
