Founded in 1976 under the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Project Amistad has dedicated itself to providing essential transportation and social services to the elderly, persons with disabilities, and at-risk individuals. Co-founded by the visionary Lucy G. Acosta, the organization has grown from a small team to over 140 employees, with an annual budget exceeding $17 million. In her honor, the annual Humanitarian Awards celebrate local heroes committed to community service.
