Our Story
The Loyal Christian Benefit Association Foundation, originally founded as the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association, emerged from the courageous efforts of a group of Catholic women in Titusville, Pennsylvania. These pioneers recognized the urgent need for financial protection tailored specifically for women, and they took action. The founders, including notable figures like Kate Woods and Frances M. Mayer, established the first insurance society owned and operated by women, dedicated to the welfare of Practical Roman Catholic women.
In the late 1800s, these women passionately advocated for the benefits of LCBA from Roman Catholic pulpits, marking a significant moment in the women’s rights movement. By 1910, the organization had grown to over 117,000 members, demonstrating the power of community and shared purpose. Over the past 125 years, LCBA has supported countless families through their most challenging times, providing not just financial assistance but also fostering a spirit of community service.
Today, LCBA continues to thrive, serving over 33,000 Christians across 35 states and the District of Columbia, while remaining rooted in its Erie, Pennsylvania origins.
