Our Story

LOVEPAWS was founded by five dedicated volunteers from the Prince George’s County Animal Shelter who witnessed the heartbreaking reality of pet owners surrendering their beloved animals due to financial hardships. The journey began with Coco, a little Jack Russell Terrier whose family struggled to afford her medical care. Through compassion and determination, founder Sonya helped Coco’s family secure low-cost treatment and eventually welcomed Coco into her home as a hospice foster. Every animal saved by LOVEPAWS honors Coco’s legacy and the countless others who need help.

Our Impact

For over five years, LOVEPAWS has focused on rescuing animals from local shelters, particularly targeting pit bull type dogs affected by a county-wide breed ban. The organization also provides essential community outreach to ensure pets remain in loving homes.
