Our Story

Founded in December 2018, Louisville Family Justice Advocates is dedicated to advancing equitable policies and fair practices for families with incarcerated loved ones in Jefferson County, Kentucky. Guided by values of respect, dignity, and unity, LFJA prioritizes the voices of those with direct experiences of incarceration, ensuring they make up at least half of our staff and volunteers. A core program, the Special Project, has facilitated over 6,000 artmaking opportunities for caregivers and children connected to incarcerated individuals.

Our Impact

During the pandemic, LFJA played a crucial role in keeping families connected by successfully advocating for free phone calls and video visitation for incarcerated individuals. Additionally, LFJA was instrumental in creating a Comprehensive & Public Jail Population Dashboard, empowering community advocates to drive policy change and enhance accountability.
