Our Story

The Louisville Academy of Music was founded in 1954 by Robert French and Donald Murray, starting with a small team dedicated to providing vocal and instrumental lessons. Over the years, the Academy has grown to serve over 400 students weekly, emphasizing equity in music education and breaking down barriers to access. The Academy honors the indigenous peoples of the land and their history, continuing to evolve under the leadership of Sara Louise Callaway.

Impact

Teaching over 400 students weekly, the Academy reaches more than 3,000 individuals annually through free community music programs. By promoting inclusivity and long-term instruction, it significantly impacts the Louisville community.
