Our Story

Three decades ago, a group of proactive citizens in Los Alamos, New Mexico, recognized the need for comprehensive senior care. This grassroots effort led to the establishment of the Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 1984, thanks to community fundraising and support from the County government. Over the years, the Los Alamos Retirement Community has continued to thrive, driven by a local Board of Directors and the unwavering commitment of the community. The addition of the state-of-the-art Aspen Ridge Lodge further exemplifies this dedication to senior care.
