Our Story
The Lookout Fire Company No. 1 has been a vital part of the Pen Argyl community since its inception in 1890. Originating from a humble bucket brigade, the organization has transformed into a modern volunteer fire company equipped with advanced firefighting tools and trained personnel. The first fire protection efforts were initiated by the town's residents, who were required to participate in extinguishing fires using leather buckets. This community spirit laid the foundation for what would become a dedicated fire service.
In 1888, a significant fire at the Albion House highlighted the urgent need for organized fire protection. This led to the formation of the Lookout Hose Co. No. 1, which was officially incorporated on June 9, 1890. Over the years, the company has adapted to the changing needs of the community, investing in equipment, training, and education to ensure the safety of Pen Argyl's residents.
Today, the Lookout Fire Company No. 1 continues to respond to emergencies, educate the public on fire safety, and foster a spirit of volunteerism. The organization hosts annual events, such as the Labor Day Parade, to engage with the community and promote fire safety awareness.
